Yvan Saeys

Yvan Saeys obtained an MSc. in Computer Science from Ghent University in 2000, and held positions as a research scientist at the Centre for Evolutionary Language Engineering (Flanders Language Valley) and Tibotec (now Johnson&Johnson). He then returned to academia, and obtained his PhD in Computer Science in 2004 from Ghent University, Belgium. After spending time abroad at the University of the Basque Country (Spain) and the Université Claude Bernard (Lyon 1, France) he returned as an FWO postdoc to the group of Yves Van de Peer where he coordinated the research on data mining and machine learning. In 2013 he joined the Inflammation Research Center, where he started a new bioinformatics and data mining subgroup within the team of Bart Lambrecht, focusing on systems approaches for immunology. Since 2015 he is a group leader at VIB and an associate professor at Ghent University.
He is currently heading the Data Mining and Modelling for Biomedicine (DaMBi) research group, an interdisciplinary team consisting of mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers and bioinformaticians. The main focus of the group is the design and application of novel data mining and machine learning techniques for systems immunology.
